Ambassador Blog - January

Store News

For 2018 we will be publishing a monthly blog story from one of our ambassadors. This month's blog from our new e-bike ambassador Richard kicks things off with a look at how cycling is the ideal activity to begin a healthy start to the year.

My Moto is “Ordinary people, extraordinary goals!”

A new year is upon us, have you decided what your resolutions will be? Let’s hope they’ll include, rolling on two wheels?

My name is Richard and I’m delighted to be appointed a bike ambassador for Giant Camden.
My journey as a cyclist started in 2011. My sporting background was racquet sports, squash and tennis at a good club level. Whilst playing in a match, I slipped and tore my medial knee ligament and had to recuperate for 6 months.
As part of my rehab, I pulled out of the shed a 1970’s steel framed Falcon and started cycling again.
Soon I was hooked, entering sportives and my first triathlon Windsor 2012 Olympic distance, Olympic year!

My background is in the music industry, international marketing and artist management.
With this new found freedom, I decided to have a career change and become a Personal Trainer and help professionals in their 40s and 50s, time manage their health and fitness and avoid some of the lifestyle choices that I sadly saw others suffer.
As I worked with clients, I realised rather than boring gym based, body weight exercise, people wanted to get out into the fresh air.
Not everyone is able to run, because of underlying health issues, knees etc, so I got them onto their bikes and onto the road! Cycling as a low impact exercise, over a period of time it is one of the best ways of achieving weight loss, muscle strengthening, bone density & flexibility.

Over the coming months we will be organising a number of guide cycle rides. They will be aimed at people who just want to get our and ride socially. There will also be opportunities to book a demo Giant or Liv E-bike so you can experience just how much fun the latest technology can make your cycling.
The first ride will be a trip around Regents Park, London’s West End, Buckingham Palace, the Thames and back to Camden. We will be announcing the date shortly in the events page of the store website. Please get in touch via the store email if you have any questions about getting into cycling. We will be more than happy to show you the way.
